Understanding the Turn Left / Right Sign

Turn Left / Right

Where: At intersections where traffic is required to turn in a specific direction. Common on one-way streets, junctions, or lanes designated for turning only.

Purpose: To inform drivers of the mandatory turning direction at the intersection ahead. It ensures safe and orderly traffic flow by preventing vehicles from proceeding straight or turning in prohibited directions, reducing the risk of collisions with vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians.

Action Required by Driver: Proceed only in the direction indicated by the arrow (left or right), signalling in advance to alert other road users of your intended turn.

  • Check before turning — look for pedestrians, cyclists, and oncoming vehicles before executing the turn.
  • Do not deviate — never turn in the opposite direction or go straight if it is prohibited.
